HI MY NAME IS DAVE!

Highly Technical Instructions!

paperairplanes

For those of you who have to wear a bicycle helmet to bed, I have created a step by step instruction manual on how to create a paper airplane. You may ask yourself, “why would you bother?” Well, the purpose of this is more to detail my abilities in technical drawing and writing than to actually train you how to disrupt a study hall (I would have made a spit-wad manual if that was my intent).

Turkey Asks for Presidential Pardon

turkeypardonme

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday, I thought I would do a small seasonal piece to celebrate the fact that every year, the United States President grants a pardon to a turkey on Thanksgiving day.

This image is almost 100% digital. The only part that was hand drawn was the line art for the turkey itself. I drew the turkey in ink, scanned it, colored it and created the entire background in Photoshop. The final version of this image is poster-sized so there is a lot of detail that you don’t see in this small version of it (I actually placed 50 stars on the flag!). The detail was truly painstaking and this piece took me probably 5 hours total to complete due to the complexity of recreating the White House.

These will be sold as postcards next year, so stay tuned.

Little Demon Illustration, Design, Logo

littledemon

This piece shows some of my work as a traditional illustrator but with also with some of my graphic design skills as most of the image has been digitally enhanced and the logo was digitally created. I used Photoshop & Inkscape to create this piece of art.

This little guy comes as part of a royalty-free art package that I am putting together (eventually).

I plan on releasing a large collection of my work to be used completely royalty free sometime in the future. I will try to keep the cost reasonable, but the license will be very open allowing it to be used on almost anything you would want (clothing, merchandise, websites, software, etc.).

Rooster Illustration

roosterThis rooster is something I did a while back. It was a pencil drawing which I scanned, adjusted the contrast and made the line drawing appear as though it was done in ink rather than pencil. From there, I threw in the color, background and shadow to give you the finished piece we see today.

Strange Little Umbrella Man

umbrellamanwatermarkThis morning I was feeling a little bored and I wanted to add some illustrations to this page.  Rather than look for old images to add, I grabbed my trusty mechanical pencil and some card stock and went to town creating this bizarre little man.

What can I tell you about this man?  Not much that you cannot surmise yourselves.  He is oddly proportioned with giant feet and huge hands as well as one arm larger than the other.  Other than that, it looks like he likes to stay current (based on the newspaper in his giant paw) and also stays prepared for weather travesties (demonstrated by the OPEN umbrella in his other, slightly smaller mitt).

I may ink and/or digitally color this image later if the mood strikes me.
